Next Steps Mental Health Resource Centre, working in partnership with Carers Plus Yorkshire, has been successful in securing funding to develop a range of wellbeing programs designed to focus on ‘living well with…’.
The free programs are designed to help us see how we can stay positive and focused on our own physical and mental health while managing a long-term health condition.
Currently running in Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley and Malton, the weekly classes last five weeks and focus on positive health and wellbeing.
Content examines making healthy choices in what we eat and do to promote a positive body image.
Leisa Burniston, Chief Officer of Next Steps, which is based in Norton, said: “The Living Well With project is an amazing initiative that offers free programs designed to help us see how we can stay positive and focused on our physical condition and mental health while managing a long-term health condition. As we all know, sometimes our ill health can become overwhelming to manage. loud on the days it gets tough.
“The discussions are already proving extremely helpful for clients as they discuss, learn and laugh together knowing that everyone is experiencing a similar or different loss. The programs are not designed to offer medical advice and guidance, but are designed to ensure that we have the tools needed to gain confidence, adopt a positive mindset and encourage peer support from others experiencing the same kind of thoughts, barriers and symptoms.
Classes are designed for people with diabetes, loss, anxiety and depression and making healthy food choices.
The program will continue to operate on a rolling basis but also open to new topics.
